After few days of inactivity due to a pretty busy time schedule, I’m back with a little checkbook cover made by Monique, which is supposed to be a gift. Thanks to her great embroidery machine which reproduced pretty well her little ladybug.

After the panda, the tiger and the horse, I could not continue making sumi-e without drawing at least a carp.
Those who knows a little bit about japanese culture would have noticed that this fish is omnipresent in japanese traditional arts (such as prints, kakemono, tattoo, sumi-e…). The carps are symbols of strength and perseverance, and they’re supposed to bring good luck.

In France we mostly see 2 kinds of them, the red and white with red spots, but in Japan we can find at leat 15 different families. Among them the georgeous golden Yamabuki-Ogon (do not confuse with the yellow one) and the Tancho kind, a white with red and round spot on its head, just like the japanese flag (wich can cost 180 000€ if the red spot is perfectly round and net).

Yesterday I went to a medieval town at Seine et Marne, called Provins. Just for the records, this town is registered in the world’s patrimony of UNESCO. On the XII and XIII century, it was 1 of the biggest European commerce, and the golden age of faires and Counts of Champagne.
I went there to see the live creche of Christmas. This show is to retrace the life of Saint-François d’Assise, who accompanied his father, a rich Italian draper, to the faire of Champagne at Provins, which was made for the first time to represent the nativity in 1223 close to Greccio.

The show took place in the center of the collegial Saint-Quiriace and regroup not less than 50 actors and about 20 animals. Among the traditional sheep, cow, and shepherd dog, we were lucky to see 2 beatiful camels, and had a falcon flied above our heads. It was simply a beautiful sight.

The rest of the old city is always good for a visit, since it keeps some part of the old ramparts and some monuments of the era, in a very good condition. I know it sounds like an advertisemet, but it really is a nice place.
Other speciality of the place is : hypocrase, a medieval recipe of wine with spices, it tastes almost like hot cinnamon wine but more flavoured. I, who am not a bog lover of wine (I know, shame on me ..), thank to this I’m learning to love .. the wine ..

These days, we were not totally satisfied of our orange rabbit (remember our first wave of round animals), we thought it was not expressive enough and the colors were too plane. So we did another one, brighter.
White and pink rabbit or orange rabbit, which one do you prefer?

After the tiger, here’s the horse. I don’t know why but this one has been particularly uneasy to make. I missed several times before i can get something satisfying.

After the cow who can hold pictures (remember here), here’s a little pig who will gladly hide your little stuff inside his round tummy.
